Here's one of those familiar names I remembered as a young man!
Whitey Harris is shown here in a couple of his former rides.  The Blue and White A24
Sedan has to be one of his most memorable cars!  The first organizational meeting of the
group that would go on to be called the Interstate Racing Association was at Whitey's house.
Anybody remember IRA club meetings at the Tar Foo Club on 59 & Grass Lake Rd south of
Antioch??   How about Board meetings in Ray Toft's office at city hall??
Imagine winning a feature with only 3
wheels!!  Only back in the day!!
I talked with Whitey about this photo.
He explained how unforgiving the old
inner guard rail was at Wilmot! If you
got to close bad things definitely
happened. Luckily for the guy's who
only used 3 wheels during a race this
didn't present a problem!!
In 1970 Whitey drove for
Freddie Neilsen. 70
would turn out to be
one of the most
dominated seasons in
IRA History!!  4 Track
Championships lead to a
1970 IRA Championship
for Whitey!
Here's a photo from Lake Geneva's
Legends night. Fran and Whitey
are proudly showing their Photo
album and scrap book! Fran
recently went through and
updated their collection!

You may also recognize Jack "At
The Track" Biddison and Dan "The
Rebel" Kopshe looking on. VMSC
Member Bob Surges is looking on
as well.

Can't tell you what a treat it was for
me to finally get an opportunity to
chat with Mr. Harris face to face!
Icons from the very beginning of
the Inter-State Racing Association
can be hard to come by. Hard to
imagine it all started at the Harris's
kitchen table!
